To the most of us who are used to have dogs or cats, getting along with their characteristics is as easy as breezy, plus the human body is an ever adaptive biological mechanism, that after some exposure, it adapts to the changes, to the extent that those are imperceptible to you anymore, so if you are thinking to sell your property and have pets? Then expect a huge clean bill or a reduction on you sale price.
For the ones that keep the house tidy and clean, free of smells, then this is rarely an issue, but if there is pet hair everywhere, strong smells of pet waste on the yard or in the dwelling, then the chances of getting the leads discouraged increases and as a consequence the longer will remain for sale in the market.
According to a Study found that 40% of the kids with asthma reacted to cats, 34% to dogs, etc. to mention the most common ones.
But the hair or the smells are not just the problem, also you may find scratched hand rails, carpets, half chewed toys laying around and yellow or dying grass, diminishing the curb appealing. So expect to spend some money in the repairs, but sure this will be well spent money when you see the results of the happening.
So what are the recommendations to follow?
- Clean the place, especially any rugs or carpeting, thoroughly before putting the home on the market, which may mean calling in professionals. And don’t forget the air vents. Once the house is clean, keep it that way.
- Pet owners often don’t notice the odours caused by their animals, so it’s best to ask your broker or friend if odours are noticeable.
- If animals have urinated in the house, replace the affected carpeting or flooring, eliminating the odour at its source.
- Ideally, remove pets from the home while the house is on the market. If that’s impractical, either take the pets out during showings or keep them confined in a small room or crate.
You may as ask why this last point is important, well pets can become a distraction when showing the property, as mentioned before some people are phobic and some are not, but would you rather have your prospects be distracted by your pet or have them focused on the nicely features of your property, that you so much cared about.
